Image: AI generated<\/p>\n\n    <p>\n      In November or December 2026, a Japanese spacecraft will lift off from the Tanegashima Space Center and begin one of the most ambitious planetary exploration missions ever attempted. \n      The <strong>Martian Moons eXploration (MMX)<\/strong> mission, developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), is set to travel to Mars, study both of its moons \u2014 Phobos and Deimos \u2014 land on Phobos, collect samples, and bring them back to Earth by 2031.\n    <\/p>\n\n    <div class=\"info-strip\">\n      <div class=\"info-cell\"><div class=\"label\">Launch<\/div><div class=\"value\">Nov\u2013Dec 2026<\/div><\/div>\n      <div class=\"info-cell\"><div class=\"label\">Lead Agency<\/div><div class=\"value\">JAXA (Japan)<\/div><\/div>\n      <div class=\"info-cell\"><div class=\"label\">Primary Target<\/div><div class=\"value\">Phobos<\/div><\/div>\n      <div class=\"info-cell\"><div class=\"label\">Earth Return<\/div><div class=\"value\">2031<\/div><\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <p>\n      MMX will be humanity&#8217;s first mission to return material from the region of Mars. \n      The spacecraft will enter a special quasi-satellite orbit (QSO) around Phobos and use two distinct sampling systems \u2014 a pneumatic sampler and a coring device \u2014 to collect over 10 grams of regolith from its surface. \n      These samples hold the key to one of planetary science&#8217;s longest-standing debates: are the Martian moons captured asteroids from the outer Solar System, or are they debris left over from a colossal impact on ancient Mars?\n    <\/p>\n\n    <blockquote>\n      &#8220;MMX is humanity&#8217;s first attempt to travel to the Martian sphere, land on a moon, collect samples, and bring them back to Earth.&#8221;\n      <br\/>\u2014 JAXA Mission Statement\n    <\/blockquote>\n\n    <p>\n      The mission is a truly global effort.
